Research Opportunities

As an athletic training resident, you will be required to complete a case study or a research project. The Steadman Philippon Research Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping people of all ages physically active through orthopedic research and education in areas of arthritis, healing, rehabilitation and injury prevention. Athletic training residents work alongside the SPRI staff, attending physicians, and with our MD Sports Fellows to complete their required case study or research project. To help complete your required project, the institute provides you with access to its cadaver and biomechanics laboratory, and its patient outcomes and procedures database.

Evidence Based Practice
The residents are exposed to the building of evidence-based practice in medicine with the ground-breaking research SPRI conducts. The resident partakes in patient-centered care that is based on current research improving patient outcomes. The residents actively conduct patient outcome measurements and apply them to the plan of care of patients. SPRI’s Center for Orthopaedic Outcomes Department holds one of the largest databases in the world for orthopaedic outcomes. These data-driven tools are used to improve outcomes with patients every day.
