Internal Medicine
David Kuppersmith, MD, MSc is an internal medicine physician specializing in perioperative medicine. He works alongside the surgeons at The Steadman Clinic to ensure patients are medically optimized before surgery and to manage any medical issues that arise during the perioperative period.
Dr. Kuppersmith completed his residency in internal medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He then served as an attending physician at The Hospital for Special Surgery, where he cared for patients undergoing orthopaedic procedures.
He holds a Master of Science in Immunology from the University of Oxford, with a particular interest in the immunopathogenesis of arthrofibrosis, which is the process by which inflammatory cells communicate with one another to drive the formation of scar tissue.
In addition to his role at The Steadman Clinic, Dr. Kuppersmith serves as Head Internal Medicine Physician and Head Physician for US Men’s Alpine Team and Assistant Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Medical Council. He is also the United States Medical Delegate to the International Ski Federation (FIS) medical committee.
Dr. Kuppersmith sees patients for all The Steadman Clinic's surgeons. This close integration of internal medicine and orthopaedics is rare, making The Steadman Clinic one of the few places in the country where medicine and surgery are combined to deliver the best possible care and optimal outcomes for every patient.
