Athletic Training Program, Class of 2018-2019

JD Volz

JD is originally from the small town of Boonville, Indiana. He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Indiana University. While working toward his undergraduate degree he worked for a number of collegiate teams and the Army ROTC program. His primary positions included a season-long position with the IU baseball team and a yearlong position with the IU football team. In this time he also spent part of a summer working in the Dominican Republic for the Texas Rangers baseball team. He then continued his education at Indiana University where he received a Masters in Kinesiology with a focus in Athletic training. During this time he worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Owen Valley High School/Middle School and helped out as a teaching assistant for a number of the undergraduate athletic training courses. His research while at Indiana looked at the utilization of lower limb symmetry values and their predictive variables in return to play decision-making. In his free time he enjoys being outdoors and spending time hiking or fishing. Living on a mountain has always been a dream of his, so he is more than excited for the move to Vail and hopes that during his time he will actually learn how to ski.

 

Allison Montgomery

As a former resident of central Pennsylvania, Allison attended Penn State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and graduated with Honors in Kinesiology from the Schreyer Honors College.  Immediately following her undergraduate program, Allison accepted an Athletic Training Graduate Assistantship with Penn State and completed a graduate degree in Educational Leadership.  During her assistantship, Allison worked with the football team and the men's and women's gymnastics teams.  Allison began a seasonal athletic training internship in the National Football League before joining Penn State once again to work as the athletic trainer with the women's basketball team.  In her spare time, Allison enjoys spending time outdoors and is thrilled to have the opportunity to explore all that Vail Valley has to offer!
 

 

Hanna Mundy

Hanna is originally from Flower Mound, Texas. She graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas with her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While at TCU, Hanna worked with Women's Soccer, Men's/Women's Swimming and Diving, and spent two full seasons with Football. After completing her undergraduate studies, Hanna furthered her education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. During her time at OSU, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the OSU Spirit Squads, which included the national championship winning Co-Ed Cheer team, the Pom squad, Spirit Riders, and a gameday Cheer team. She obtained her Master of Science in Health and Human Performance, with an Exercise Science Focus. Additionally, she completed a thesis, Evaluation of Nutritional Practices and Knowledge of Collegiate Cheerleaders and Dancers. After living in "The South" her entire life, Hanna is excited for the change and new experiences that living in Vail will bring!

 

Kevin Berning

Kevin is originally from Castle Rock, Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from North Park University in Chicago, IL. After graduation, he spent 1 year working as an Intern/Graduate Assistant at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs working with the Women’s Basketball team. He also did contract work with the United States Olympic Committee through USA Volleyball and US Figure Skating. After that, Kevin earned his Masters of Science in Athletic Training from Texas State University. During graduate school, he completed research on hydration and worked as a research assistant in the Biomechanics lab while focusing on head impact biomechanics with the Texas State student-athletes and conducting baseline concussion testing on all student-athletes. He also served as a preceptor and taught undergraduate Athletic Training classes at Texas State. He is excited to be back in Colorado and experience snow again!

 

Jared Sweigard

Jared is originally from North Olmsted, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from The Ohio State University in 2016. As a student athletic trainer, he had the opportunity to work with a local high school and several collegiate teams at Ohio State including: Soccer, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Football, and Track programs. Prior to his senior year he also spent a summer as a student intern with the New England Patriots during their training camp and preseason. After graduating from OSU, Jared moved to Salt Lake City and earned his Master of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Utah in 2018. He worked primarily with the 2017 NCAA Champion Alpine and Nordic Ski program, while also assisting with the Swim/Dive program and Men’s Golf. He also interned with a minor league baseball team his first summer out west. He completed his graduate research on the effects of kinesiology tape on perceived pain and muscle function in delayed onset muscle soreness of the rectus femoris. In addition to his responsibilities as an athletic trainer, he served as a clinical preceptor for the undergraduate students in the athletic training program. Jared enjoys everything the outdoors has to offer and is looking forward to spending another year out west and experiencing what Vail has to offer year-round.

 

Christine Poole

Christine calls Greensboro, North Carolina home. She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Western Carolina University in 2016. While attending Western Carolina, Christine was privileged to work at the Virginia Military Institute, providing care for men’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, football, wrestling and the entire corps, and at North Carolina State University, where she assisted with women’s soccer and swimming & diving. Christine continued her education at the University of Florida, earning her Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training in 2018; additionally, she completed a Pediatric Orthopaedic Residency. During her time at Florida, Christine was a graduate assistant athletic trainer, serving as the head athletic trainer for Bell Middle-High School and Buchholz High School. Christine also spent two summers as the head athletic trainer for Berkshire Soccer Academy, an elite residential training camp for girls, working with current and former members of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team, the National Women’s Soccer League and collegiate players from around the world. Christine is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys snowboarding, backpacking and running. Having spent most of her time in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Christine is excited to explore the Rocky Mountains and see all that Vail Valley has to offer.

 

Chantel Hunter

Chantel is originally from the Annapolis, Maryland area. She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Connecticut in 2016. After, Chantel went on to accept a graduate assistant athletic training position at the University of Delaware. During her first year at UD, she worked with women’s soccer and field hockey, and her second year with volleyball, swimming, diving, and club sports. She obtained her Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Medicine while completing research on neurocognitive performance in soccer athletes after careers of purposeful heading. In her free time Chantel enjoys hiking with her dog and spending time outdoors. She is looking forward to learning how to ski or snowboard and seeing all Vail has to offer!
