Annie VanderWeide

Annie was raised in the frozen northern hills of Anchorage, Alaska. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology/Sports Science and Master of Science in Athletic Training at Point Loma Nazarene University in sunny San Diego. During the first year of her graduate program, she had the privilege of working as an athletic training student with NCAA Division I football and track & field at San Diego State University. Her second year included clinical rotations with the San Diego Loyal, a USL team owned and operated by Landon Donovan, as well as San Diego's professional Major League Rugby team, The Legion. 
After graduation Annie moved to Buena Vista, Colorado where she spent the summer working as an outdoor guide in addition to earning her NREMT certification. In the fall of 2022, she moved to Keystone, Colorado where she has worked for two winter seasons treating injuries on the mountain as a ski patroller for Keystone Resort. Annie returned to San Diego in the time between winter seasons, where she substituted as the head athletic trainer for Crawford High School. She also had the privilege of being asked to return to San Diego Loyal men's soccer team, but this time as the assistant athletic trainer on staff. In her free time, Annie enjoys skiing, rock climbing, eating ice cream, playing volleyball, and hiking. She is excited to transition into the physician practice setting and take advantage of all the learning opportunities The Steadman Clinic residency program will provide.
 

Sammi Ruiz

Graduate School- Ithaca College
Undergraduate School- Ithaca College
Samantha was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Ithaca College in upstate NY. While at IC Samantha completed clinical rotations with Ithaca’s women’s soccer, women’s basketball, field hockey, and baseball teams, and Cornell University’s women’s lacrosse team. During her undergraduate education, she also completed an internship at Next Level Strength and Conditioning in Fairport, NY, helping coach athletes of all levels, from middle school to professional. Samantha continued her higher education at Ithaca College, working as a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer while receiving her Masters in Mental Performance. During her graduate assistantship, Samantha primarily worked with Ithaca’s gymnastics team and men’s and women’s tennis teams. She also worked with Ithaca’s women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s basketball, wrestling, women’s soccer, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. Throughout her graduate education, she also got the opportunity to lead as a preceptor for multiple Undergraduate and Master of Athletic Training students. After completing her degrees at IC, Samantha accepted a job at the University of Rochester Medical Center in their Ambulatory Orthopaedics division as an Orthopaedic Technician. At the U of R, Samantha got the opportunity to assist physicians with ultrasound injections, suture and staple removal, DME fitting and education, and casting. Samantha enjoys staying active with weight lifting, Pilates, walking, and spin classes. She is excited to have the opportunity to learn and grow from the world-class clinicians and researchers at The Steadman Clinic and embrace all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer year-round. 
 

Rachel McNeal

Graduate School- James Madison University
Undergraduate School- Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Rachel was raised in Midlothian, VA. She completed her dual bachelor’s degrees in Human, Nutrition, Food and Exercises (HNFE) and Psychology at Virginia Tech in 2021. While at Virginia Tech, she was a sports medicine student aide where she assisted the sports medicine staff responsible for the Men’s and Women’s Tennis and Swim and Dive teams. She continued with her education at James Madison University (JMU) and completed her Master’s in Athletic Training in 2023. While at JMU, she completed clinical rotations at Eastern Mennonite University, JMU’s Women’s Volleyball, Bridgewater College football, JMU’s Women’s Basketball and Softball. After graduating, she moved to Lansing, MI where she completed an internship at Michigan State University working as an athletic trainer with the Cheer and Dance teams. While at MSU, she also assisted with the women’s gymnastics team and was a preceptor for master and undergraduate students. In her free time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family, her 2 kitties (Dempsey and Shepherd), reading, swimming, and watching true-crime documentaries. She is excited to explore more of the outdoors that Vail offers and getting to learn from the world-renowned medical professionals at The Steadman Clinic!
 

Kily Gilbert

Graduate School- Oregon State University
Undergraduate School- Oregon State University
Kily grew up in Roseburg, Oregon. She attended Oregon State University (OSU), where she received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2019. She continued her studies at Oregon State University obtaining her Master of Athletic Training degree in 2021. While at OSU, she completed clinical rotations with the Beavers’ Football, Men's and Women’s soccer, Baseball, Wrestling, Women’s Golf, and Men's Rowing teams, as well as a local high school and Western Oregon University Football. Her graduate research project consisted of studying the effects of ACL reconstruction on the contralateral leg, in order to better understand how to prevent secondary injuries while doing rehabilitation. She then completed a seasonal internship with the Denver Broncos, working as an athletic trainer and travelling with the team for the 2021 season. Kily spent the next 3 years working in baseball as part of the minor league medical team for the Houston Astros. She started with a team in the Dominican Republic, working her way up to the Florida League and the Carolina League as their head Athletic Trainer for low A baseball. In her free time, Kily enjoys hiking, wakeboarding, tumbling, and travelling. She is excited to learn from the world class medical team at The Steadman Clinic and to explore more of the beautiful outdoors Colorado has to offer.
 

Kelly Koppy

 Graduate School- Northern Arizona University
Undergraduate School- Northern Arizona University
Kelly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She attended Northern Arizona University to pursue her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition. During her time there she interned as a First Aid Tech Student with the football team. Kelly was one of the first three students to apply to and be accepted into the school's accelerated bachelor's in Exercise Science to master's in Athletic Training program. When COVID struck, she decided to use the extra at-home time to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA to better improve her ability to serve her future patients. During her first year in the MSAT program, she completed her clinical rotation at Coconino High School in Flagstaff, AZ. After discovering her love for working in a high school setting, she completed her second year of clinical rotations at Marana High School in Tucson, Arizona. While finishing her master's, she also took on the role of teaching two classes of sports medicine. Upon graduation, she accepted a full time position at MHS and spent the last two years serving as the athletic trainer and teaching sports medicine. 
In her free time, she enjoys watching sports, golfing, playing pickleball, and spending time with her family and friends. Kelly is excited to learn how to ski and enjoy the outdoors year round. She looks forward to this opportunity at the Steadman Clinic to work alongside and learn from a world-renowned orthopaedic team.

Jillian Neufeld

Undergraduate School- University Of Winnipeg
Jillian Neufeld grew up in Winnipeg, Canada, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Therapy from the University of Winnipeg. She began her career working with youth football teams and in private practice in Winnipeg. Her passion for understanding human movement led her to complete a Master of Science in Biomechanics at the University of Western Ontario. 
Jillian’s Master’s thesis focused on validating a practical method to measure knee kinematics during landing, crucial for ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation. Throughout her graduate program, Jillian actively contributed to a significant clinical trial focusing on ACL reconstructions at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic, where she stayed on as an Orthopaedic Research Assistant post-graduation. Her responsibilities included working with research initiatives for ACL injuries, hip impingement, shoulder instability, and hip and knee osteoarthritis. During her graduate degree and time at the Fowler Kennedy Clinic, Jillian served as an Assistant AT with the university football team and managed medical coverage for high-performance youth football in Ontario. 
Beyond academics and research, Jillian has an athletic background as a former competitive swimmer and sprint kayaker. She remains involved in sports, indulging her love for outdoor activities like water sports and hiking. In her leisure time, Jillian enjoys watching football and hockey, solving crosswords, and is excited to explore hiking trails in Vail and learn how to ski.
 

Kendall Sundberg

Graduate School- University of Pittsburgh
Undergraduate School- Ohio University
Kendall was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania on Lake Erie. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Ohio University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2019. Kendall continued her academic journey at the University of Pittsburgh, where she obtained a Master of Science in Sports Science in 2020. During her master's program, she conducted research with the University of Pittsburgh Swimming & Diving Team. She developed an innovative 6-week science-based training and recovery program focused on blood lactate levels. This program was designed to complement both macro and micro-training phases, ensuring athletes were optimally prepared for competition. Kendall later joined Prisma Health at Converse University, a Division II school in Greenville, South Carolina, as an assistant athletic trainer. Over three years, she worked with 22 sports teams including soccer, field hockey, basketball, swimming, tennis, softball, and many more. While she was at Converse University, she had the opportunity to implement injury prevention programs for each sports team based on screenings done alongside physical therapists. Outside of work, Kendall enjoys working out and creating personalized workout programs. She is an avid hiker who loves exploring trails that lead to waterfalls or lakes. Additionally, she has a passion for baking cookies and cherishes spending quality time with her family. Kendall is excited to have the opportunity to work alongside world-renowned surgeons at The Steadman Clinic and cannot wait for new opportunities in the future.
