Fellowship Program, Class of 2016-2017

As seems to be the case every year, the class of 2016-2017 embraces the life long relationships built as a result of their time in the fellowship program here at The Steadman Clinic and SPRI.

Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, Sal graduated from John Carroll University with a degree in biology. He earned his medical degree at the University of Toledo where he participated in medical mission trips to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his orthopaedic training at the Cleveland Clinic where he published several articles on periprosthetic shoulder infection and elbow injuries in baseball pitchers and was awarded the 2015 Neer Award at ASES specialty day for his work. For the past three years he served as the lone resident on the Ohio Orthopaedic Society executive board and provided physician coverage for the Cleveland Indians baseball organization and several Ohio high school football teams.

He will be joined by his fiancé Meghan, who will become his wife on Sept. 3^rd. Outside of medicine he enjoys softball, skiing, bocce, being outdoors and spending time with Meghan and their friends and family.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Geeslin completed his undergraduate education in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Minnesota and attended medical school at the same institution. Dr. Geeslin completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, where he assisted with sports coverage for the local university and the US Tennis Association national championships.

His research interests include multi-ligament knee injuries, acromioclavicular joint pathology, and biologic treatments for orthopaedic injuries. He has published studies in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, and the Journal of Orthopaedic Research. He is currently an editorial board member for Arthroscopy.

He and his wife Kendra are very excited to be moving to Vail with their 20 month old son, Gage, and 4 year old golden retriever, Bella. His interests outside of medicine include downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, and triathlons.

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Dr. Godin graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. in neuroscience and a minor in entrepreneurship & management. While at Hopkins, he also completed an intramural research training award fellowship the NIH in addition to conducting research at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Godin attended the University of Michigan Medical School as a Dean’s Merit Scholar, where he graduated with honors while discovering his interest in orthopaedics.  While in medical school, he also pursued a Masters of Business Administration with a focus on healthcare management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Godin completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center where he provided physician coverage for Hillside High School, North Carolina Central University, and most of Duke’s varsity athletic teams, including the men’s football, basketball, and lacrosse teams.  His research interests at Duke included pediatric anterior cruciate ligament injuries, shoulder instability, and bone-tendon healing. His research has received awards at the national level and has been presented internationally.   Prior to completing his training, he won the Excellence in Research Award, and he was chosen by his fellow residents for both the William T. Hardaker Award and the John M. Harrelson Chief Resident Teaching Award in recognition of the chief resident who contributed the most to their education and training.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Godin enjoys downhill skiing, golfing, clay shooting, and traveling. His wife, Morgan, is an ophthalmology resident at Duke and will visit him throughout his year in Vail. 

Born and raised near Scranton in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Kane completed his undergraduate education at Villanova University where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Geography.  As an undergraduate he also studied tropical marine ecology on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Dr. Kane went on to receive his medical training at Thomas Jefferson University where he confirmed his interest in orthopaedics.  He was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated summa cum laude.   Upon completing medical school, Patrick stayed at Thomas Jefferson for his orthopaedic surgery residency.  During his time at Jeff, he provided physician coverage for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Joe’s University and his alma mater Villanova.  His research interests at Jeff included ACL reconstruction graft selection, biceps tenodesis, and recurrent shoulder instability.  Prior to completing his training, he was chosen by his peers and medical students for the Chief Resident Teaching Award in recognition of the chief resident who contributed the most to medical student education.

Patrick and his wife Tamara are very excited to be moving to Vail with their 2 year old son Finnegan, 9 month old daughter, Anika, and dog Lucy.  His interests outside of medicine include travel, scuba diving, the beach, and staying active outdoors. 

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Lebus attended Harvard for his undergraduate education where he played football and majored in History. After college, he worked as research associate for an orthopaedic trauma group in Texas and coached high school football while applying to medical school.  He went on to attend the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and received the Iatros Award, an honor bestowed on him by his peers as a recognition of his ability to work effectively with colleagues as well as for his clinical prowess and desire to deliver high-quality patient care.  After completing medical school, he made his way to Music City for residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While in Nashville, he provided sports coverage for multiple area high schools as well as for Vanderbilt University athletics. He was also a regular lecturer for Vanderbilt Medical School as a component of the physical diagnosis curriculum. His research interests have included shoulder instability as well as other traumatic and degenerative conditions of the shoulder.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Lebus enjoys running, golf, skiing, and hunting, as well as writing and history. He is excited to spend the year in Vail with his wife Meg.

Originally from Utica, New York, Dr Mannava graduated cum laude, with high honors in biological sciences, and with distinction in research from Cornell University. He then attended medical school at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse.

Dr Mannava completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Wake Forest University. During his residency, he graduated from the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences with a PhD, awarded for research related to rotator cuff disorders. During his time at Wake Forest, Dr Mannava published over 45 manuscripts and book chapters, was awarded over $65,000 of research funding, and invented a surgical device that was patented. He authored over 70 abstracts that were presented at local, regional, national, and international conferences related to his research interests in regenerative medicine, in vivo biomechanics, the biology of aging, shoulder surgery, hip arthroscopy, and the overhead athlete. He was also chosen as an American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) resident leader and emerging leader. As a chief resident, he was recognized with the department’s resident teaching award for his contributions to resident and medical student education. During his time at Wake Forest, he provided physician coverage for Wake Forest Demon Deacon baseball and Winston-Salem Dash minor league baseball.

Sandeep is excited to move to Vail with his wife, Dr Kathleen A. Mannava, a board certified dermatologist with subspecialty training in dermatopathology, who will be working at Vail-Aspen-Breckenridge Dermatology for the year. They will be moving with their daughters Sophia and Stella, as well as their dog, Tinsley. The Mannava family is excited to enjoy the Vail Valley, including skiing, golfing, biking, running, and other outdoor activities.
